Raid Nets Drug Arrest

On 06/28/2007 the Shelton Police Department, in a joint investigation with the Valley Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the Statewide Narcotics Unit, along with the Stratford Police Department K-9 Unit, executed a search and seizure warrant at 17 Long Hill Avenue, Apartment #2, Shelton.

The search warrant was issued by the Derby Superior Court after a lengthy investigation of drug dealings at this apartment.  Seized in the raid were approximately 22 grams of crack cocaine, 31 grams of marijuana and 17 "folds" of heroin.  Also seized in the raid were weapons and approximately $4,000.00 in cash.

At the time of the raid, the detectives located a 20 year old female girlfriend of the arrested with her 12 day old child and her 12 year old sister in another room of the apartment.

Although there was an elaborate electronic surveillance system, the detectives were able to make entry into the building without being detected.  When taken into custody, Vince Hancock, a convicted felon, was in possession of a loaded handgun.

There were two very disturbing things concerning this raid, the 1st being that a new mother would be living in such an environment where drugs and baby formula are stored together and the other that there was so much electronic equipment for a person who shows no income.

Hancock was charged with the following charges:

Criminal Possession of a Firearm

Illegal Possession of Cocaine

Illegal Possession of Heroin

Possession of Cocaine within 1500 feet of a school

Possession of Heroin within 1500 feet of a school

Possession of Cocaine with intent to sell

Possession of Marijuana within 1500 feet of a school/daycare

Possession of Marijuana

Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell

Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell within 1500 feet of a school/daycare

2 Counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia within 1500 feet of a school/daycare

Interfering with a Police Officer

Hancock was being held in the Shelton Police Lock-up with a $500,000.00 bond with an arraignment date of 6/29/2007 at GA5 in Derby.  We have notifed the Department of Children and Families with regards to the children.  The investigation is on going with more arrests expected.
