******PRESS RELEASE******DATE: June 29, 2007By: Sergeant Mark Ptak Traffic Alert for July 3rd Downtown Area The Shelton Police Department would like to advise all Shelton residents of some possible traffic concerns for the upcoming July 4th Holiday. First of all on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007, beginning around 5:00 PM, the Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 will be holding a Firemen's Parade in celebration of their 125th Anniversary. The route of the march will be Coram Avenue, beginning in the area of Kneen Street and traveling North on Coram Avenue past the firehouse to White Street. The Parade will then turn East onto White Street to Howe Avenue, then turn North on Howe Avenue to its conclusion in the area of Brook Street. Residents on the following streets will be affected: Canal Street, Bridge Street, Howe Avenue between White Street and Brook Street, Coram Avenue from Kneen Street to Fairmont Place, Cornell Street, High Street, Hill Street, Division Avenue, Prospect Street, Orchard Street and Cross Street. There will be No Parking restrictions on most of the above mentioned streets because of pre-parade staging of apparatus and the parade route. A NO PARKING ban will be in place from 4:00 PM on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 till about 7:00 PM. After the parade is over the annual July 4th Concert and Fireworks Display, sponsored by the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department will be held downtown along the Housatonic River. City streets affected by road closures and detours will be: Canal Street from Wharf North to Cornell Street, Cornell Street, Hill Street between Howe Avenue and Canal Street, Wharf Street, Hull Street, Howe Avenue from Cornell Street to Center Street. Residents living on any of the affected streets are asked to have patience and the Shelton Police Department will make every effort to get them where they want to go. With a little patience and courtesy, this July 4th we can all have a safe and happy 4th.
